At Mercer, you will find a law school that is self-contained in a beautiful, three-story building that was designed as a reproduction of Independence Hall.

Walter F. George Building

A Picturesque Setting
The Walter F. George School of Law building sits atop Coleman Hill, overlooking downtown Macon. It is a picturesque icon of Mercer’s rich tradition as one of America’s oldest law schools. As a student here, you will take advantage of the facilities and amenities provided not only by the School of Law, but by Mercer University as well, located a short walk up College Street.

Furman Smith Law Library

Contemporary Resources
The Furman Smith Law Library is utilized by lawyers and judges across Georgia and features computer labs, multimedia outlets, private study carrels, and more than 80 network drops for laptop connections. Additionally, the building features wired classrooms, student office space, and one of the nation’s finest moot courtrooms.

The University Center

The University Center
The University Center was completed in the spring of 2004 and offers the most cutting-edge fitness and recreational facilities. Some of these include:

  • A full-sized arena for Mercer’s varsity basketball programs
  • Additional basketball and volleyball courts for intramurals
  • An indoor swimming pool
  • Aerobics facilities
  • Weight rooms
  • Training rooms
  • An elevated running track
  • Heritage Hall
  • The Street (a skylit indoor street with café-style seating)
  • A coffee shop
  • Retail shops and dining
  • Concession stands
  • Faculty and coach offices
  • The President’s Dining Room
  • The Griffin B. Bell Trustee Boardroom

Living and Parking
While the school provides an abundance of free parking, many students live in the neighborhood and walk or bike to the Walter F. George School of Law.
