NALP (National Association for Law Placement) Federal Employment Opportunities Handbook,
http://www.nalp.org/assets/9_fedempl.pdf Federal Agencies on the Web: Federal agencies continue to hire a large number of attorneys for both lawyer and law related positions. Unfortunately, because of varying hiring levels and procedures it is difficult to locate specific positions in a timely manner. The Internet is an excellent tool for locating positions with federal agencies. The federal agencies listing positions on their sites are as follows:

Federal Searchable Databases

America's Job Bank: This was intended to integrate state employment offices to make possible a nationwide search for positions. However, individual state searches are still required. Nevertheless, it does provide a good number of legal positions. Individual state searches are recommended particularly for government, public defender and district attorney positions. All state employment services offices can be accessed via America's Job Bank. A number of pages also provide links to state personnel offices which list other legal and law related positions.

Office of Personnel Management Home Page: This page lists all federal jobs available which require OPM approval. (Some agencies can recruit independently.) It has recently been upgraded substantially to be searchable. Both and law and law related positions are listed.

Fedworld: Before the OPM data base was developed this was the only searchable source of federal positions. Despite the new OPM database, Fedworld continues to list positions not contained by OPM. Typically, about 20 attorney positions are listed and many law related. We suggest checking both.

Federal Jobs Digest: Contains local and regional jobs that many other federal employment sites do not contain.
