The Law School provides a laptop program to better serve our students' technical support needs. With standardized hardware and software configurations, the technology staff is able to quickly diagnose and solve technical problems, provide customized technology training for our students, and ensure that students wishing to take exams on computer have the ability to do so. Additionally, by using standardized software and hardware, our technology staff is able to protect against potential damage caused by hackers and virus attacks. We also provide our students with an identical "loaner" laptop when a laptop needs repair, ensuring that our students will always have a laptop available.
However, students also have the option to opt out of the laptop program by providing their own laptop. The student’s laptop must meet or exceed certain specifications in order to use law school printers and take computer exams. Specifications for individual computers can be downloaded here. Additionally, students who opt out of the program will receive a $500 credit on their student account the first semester of law school. IT staff must verify that your computer meets at all of the specifications. Please note that the Law School IT department offers limited technical assistance for non-law school issued computers. You will receive your laptop during orientation. In addition, you will receive instruction on how to connect to the Law School's network and access printers throughout the building. During orientation, you will also be introduced to our technology staff, who will assist you with any questions you may have about your laptop.
