Mercer Law Democrats
The Organization:

 

Mercer Law Democrats exists to:

(1) Promote student and community awareness of political issues.

(2) Encourage political discourse among the student body.

(3) Develop leadership qualities by educating and training our members for a future in Democratic politics.

(4) Actively work for the election of Democratic candidates to public office at the local, state, and federal levels.

Previous Events & Activities:

On Saturday, April 14, 2007, Mercer Law Democrat members attended a reception for Presidential candidate and former U.S. Senator John Edwards!  Click here for a picture.

Mercer Law Democrat members attended Congressman Jim Marshalls 2006 victory party.  Click here  for a picutre. 

On Tuesday, October 24, 2006, the Mercer Law Democrats joined the Black Law Students Association and the Mercer Law Republicans to host a debate on illegal immigration.  Our featured guest was Jerry Gonzales, President of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials.

On Friday, October 6, 2006, the Mercer Law Democrats sponsored a voter registration drive in downtown Macon. 

On September 27, 2006, Tripp Self, a local attorney and candidate for Superior Court Judge spoke to a joint meeting of the Mercer Law Democrats and Mercer Law Republicans.  For pictures of the event click herehere, and here.  More information about the Tripp Self campaign can be found at http://www.selfforsuperiorcourt.com/.

On September 12, 2006, the Mercer Law Democrats hosted a lunch meeting and lecture on the life and career of Sen. Walter F. George with Mercers own Professor Jim Fleissner.

Hosted a lunch meeting featuring Amy Morton, Coordinator of Georgia Women for Kerry and Georgia Women Vote.

Hosted Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin.

Hosted a lunch forum on tort reform featuring Marc Treadwell, President of the Middle Georgia Association of Trial Lawyers.

Attended the 4 County BBQ in Byron, Georgia featuring Mercer Law graduate and former gubernatorial candidate, Secretary of State Cathy Cox.  Heres a picture of MLD members with Cathy Cox. 

Hosted State Senator Kasim Reed for a discussion on race relations and voting rights in Georgia.  Heres a picture  of Sen. Reeds speech.
